ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GmbH, based in Marly, Switzerland, ordered an automatic core loading /reel unloading system for a rewinder. The intermediate storage of reels after the unloading from the rewinder is also part of the scope of supply.
This system creates the best conditions for a smooth production. Improvements are in particular the precision of loading and unloading, personal safety, reduced risk of damages of the end product with easier operation of the system.
These functions help to increase the capacity of the entire production line and are in line with the ILFORD philosophy of investing into modern and efficient technologies.
ILFORD is, among other things, the specialist in the production of photographic products for more than 125 years.
The assembly of the system in Delémont was completed at the end of May 2008 and the installation and production is scheduled by the end of 2008.

Swiss-based vR Systems AG (formerly Metso/von Roll) has been awarded the contract to supply the New York Daily News with a fully automated, integrated newsprint roll handling system for the new KBA Commander CT presses to be installed at their Liberty View facility in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The system includes a full roll preparation line with a fully automated EcoPrep splice pattern preparation system, Stripping Assist semi-automatic stripping station, six story high daily storage with two stacker cranes, and a Total Material Management System RoAd for roll tracking, production management, AS/RS optimization, and extensive production reporting.
The system will be delivered in the summer of 2009.
Practice has confirmed that the vR Systems view of a successful solution can only be achieved in the roll preparation zone if the stripping, splice preparation, transport, handling and storage are regarded and treated as a totally integrated concept.
Manual stripping combined with automatic preparation has proved to be a very practical and economic configuration at vR Systems installations throughout Europe. While the operator always carries out the visual inspection in this solution, the quality of the prepared roll will be maintained at a reproducibly high level with the automatic splice preparation machine EcoPrep.
